Tata Power-DDL Secures Conviction in Power Theft CaseDate : Jun 25, 2024


The Hon’ble Special Court of Sh. Jitendra Singh, Addl. Sessions Judge, Rohini, has convicted Mr. Dinesh Singh, a resident of H.No. I-330, Mangolpuri, Delhi, for indulging in power theft for domestic usage. Mr. Singh has been convicted under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, for direct electricity theft.

On the basis of inspection Police registered the case of direct theft.

A detailed investigation was conducted by the Police and found that Mr. Dinesh had been illegally tapping electricity by puncturing the Low Tension Aerial Bundled Cable (LT ABC), which was further connected to the premise’s internal wiring. The investigation further exposed that there was no meter or legitimate electricity connection at the site, and a load of 7.718 KW was found to be connected for domestic purposes.

After considering the facts and evidences found at the site, the accused Mr. Dinesh has been observed as guilty of the offence under section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003. Quantum of sentence and civil liability is yet to be determined.

Since April 2024, the Sessions Judge has also convicted four more people for power theft cases from areas like Village Prahladpur Bangar, Mangol Puri, Sultanpuri and JJ Colony Shakurpur.
